I love how much my kids love their juices! It makes me happy knowing their learning to appreciate the benefits of putting good food into their bodies. Nothing compares to a fresh juice, give it a try if you haven’t, even if you don’t have a juicer there are juice bars popping up in all sorts of places, including your local Sprouts! But I really highly recommend investing in your own. This is what we use and I love it! https://amzn.to/34zSfYF
This is a favorite around our home and my go to juice for the kiddos because it’s not too strong like some juices can be which can be a little much for their little taste buds and tummies so go easy on the ginger with the little ones. It’s my go to the moment anyone feels signs of a cold coming on and several times thorough out the week because we all just love the flavor and it’s full of goodness that is working for us to protect and nourish our bodies, protect and heal them from sickness and diseases, boost our immune systems, and so much more. When your juicing the veggie or fruit instead of consuming the fiber as well your cells are instantly receiving all the vitamins, minerals and amazing healing properties that the juice provides, instead of having to work to first digest the fiber and then distribute. I personally really feel the effect of a fresh juice when I’m feeling a bit blah. I don’t drink coffee but I suppose I’d consider that my caffeine. I especially like to add a serving of organic Chlorella powder which has a lot of powerful properties as well, being very high in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Iron, and giving you a boost of energy.
I like using carrots because they provide more health promoting carotenoids than any other vegetable and it’s a tasty juiced veggie that everyone likes. Plus you can get a giant bag of organic carrots from Costco for a killer price! The antioxidants that give carrots their vibrant orange color might protect you from certain types of cancer and heart disease. In addition carrots are great for eye health. What’s more beta-carotene is converted by the body into vitamin A which is essential for healthy skin, and helps boots the immune system.
Here are some of the great benefits of my other favorite ingredients in this drink (and most of my juices):
- Lemon ~ a good source of Vitamin C, plus some studies show that lemons play a role in accessing caroteniods, and carotenoids have low bio accessibility and bio availability which means even if you eat a carotenoid-rich foods like carrots you might not absorb many of the carotenoids. That makes lemons a good addition to this juice.
- Ginger ~ contains B vitamins, vitamin C and antioxidants which provides many health benefits
- Cucumber ~ has a high water content, can help to create an alkaline environment in your body and is an excellent source of vitamin C & A
- Apple ~ contains Vitamin K which is essential for repairing bruises and cuts to your body, they also contain Vitamin C which is a natural antioxidant that provides a necessary boost to your immune system.
Carrot Juice: (serves 1-2)
- 1 Organic Apple (seeds removed & cut into fourths)
- 1 inch piece of ginger (peeled if not organic)
- 1 Cucumber (peeled if not organic)
- 1/2 lemon (peeled if not organic)
- 4-5 Large Organic Carrots
Run through juicer & serve immediately over ice. If you want to get a little more juice out of your pulp I recommend running your pulp through again, you really will get more to make it worth the extra effort. If saving for a later time put in a tightly sealed mason jar and I try to store for no more than a day, not only does it loose it’s fresh flavor it’s already oxidizing about 30 minutes after you’ve juiced it which means your starting to loose your nutrients. So it’s best to drink right away. And if you have the right juicer that means clean up is a breeze and it wouldn’t have been much effort to create a immune boosting juice in minutes. Also prepping the juicing ingredients for the week on Sunday saves me lots of time throughout the week. I will prepare a bag full of already washed/peeled carrots, a bag of ginger, and a bag of sliced apples. It makes morning prep go way faster.
If you don’t have a juicer yet or your in the market for a new one I’m in love with my Breville Compact Juice Fountain. I’ve had it for six years now and it still works fabulously. It has a very affordable price, extracts the juice very well and has easy clean up with just a few pieces that you can quickly hand wash after each use. Plus it isn’t huge like some juicers can be so it makes for easy storage. https://amzn.to/34zSfYF
